Another interesting analogy of the serpent or dragon to the mushroom, in regards to hermaphroditism is the fact that the Komodo dragon has the ability to produce babies through “virgin births” or parthenogenesis, which only seventy known vertebrates are able to accomplish. Thus any species which can reproduce itself in this manner, would be likened to the divinity of the mushroom, especially a serpent which already has many of the same characteristics.

Today, in the United States alone, there are over 200,000 hermaphrodites. Approximately one in every 1500 births is naturally what doctor’s term “intersex.” These children are born throughout the world, and the solution for most parents is to follow their doctor’s suggestion and force them to take a sexual position, at birth. This means the doctors give these children hormones and sexual surgery, sometimes, in order to help mold the direction these children will grow up in. In the ancient world, these people were highly regarded as being closer to “divinity” than the rest of us, so society has chosen, under the Patriarchy, to dismiss these people as “freaks” or genetic anomalies that need intervention. It seems god/dess has designed our species so we won’t forget out true heritage.
